Plant Health Care Technician

This person monitors and diagnoses tree and shrub health problems, recommends and performs treatments, and communicates directly with clients. He or she must be self-motivated and possess excellent organizational skills.


A clean Maine driver’s license and Maine Commercial pesticide applicator’s license is required.

Duties:

  • Plan and carry out tree and shrub health inspections and treatments on residential and commercial properties
  • Perform light pruning
  • Operate related equipment and vehicles
  • Communicate effectively with customers
  • Perform daily light equipment maintenance
  • Order necessary supplies
  • Assist tree pruning/removal crews during colder months


Skills/Qualifications:

  • Knowledge in tree and shrub identification
  • Knowledge of common plant insects and pathogens
  • Possess, or obtain within 60 days, a Maine commercial pesticide applicator license, category 3A (additional categories encouraged)
  • Possess a clean Maine driver’s license. CDL license encouraged
  • Possess excellent communication skills
  • Able to lift 50 lbs

Ground Specialist

This person serves as primary support for aerial workers and manages the work zone at ground level in a safe and efficient manner.


This individual must possess a clean Maine driver’s license. A CDL license is encouraged.

Duties:

  • Set up and manage work zone at ground level in a safe and efficient manner
  • Assist aerial workers from the ground
  • Use task specific knots for the purpose of tying on equipment, setting up lowering devices, rigging systems, etc.
  • Safely operate vehicles and equipment including trucks, chippers, stump grinders, chainsaws and tractors
  • Safely and efficiently move wood, brush and debris from the work zone


Skills/Qualifications:

  • Possess a clean Maine driver’s license
  • Knowledge or ability to learn basic climbing and rigging knots
  • Knowledge of ANSI A300 pruning Standards
  • Knowledge or ability to learn basic tree and shrub identification
  • Knowledge or ability to learn tree bucking, felling and pruning
  • Knowledge or ability to learn basic equipment maintenance
  • Able to lift 50lbs

Professional Climber

The primary duty of this person is safe and efficient pruning or removal of various sized trees. Climbing duties may also include cabling and bracing.

Duties:

  • Safely and efficiently enter and work within trees with the assistance of climbing and rigging lines
  • Safely and efficiently operate handsaws, pole saws, and chainsaws from the ground and aloft
  • Perform all pruning, cabling and removals according to ANSI A300 Standards
  • Operate trucks, chippers, stump grinders and tractors, as needed
  • Operate aerial lift equipment, when required


Skills/Qualifications:

  • Possess all of the skills and training of a Grounds Specialist
  • Possess a clean Maine driver’s license. A CDL is encouraged
  • Knowledge in tree and shrub identification
  • Knowledge in hazard tree identification
  • ISA certification, or 2-year related degree preferred, but not required
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in all facets of pruning and removals preferred, but not required
